Edinburgh Animal Rights Online Guide to Cruelty Free Products
Part of the "Proctor & Gamble Boycott."

Claims often made by companies.
PRODUCT NOT TESTED ON ANIMALS: this describes the finished product but the individual ingrediants may have been animal tested. Also it may refer to what is known as the rolling rule. For example, if a rolling five year rule is used, this means that the product/ingrediants have not been tested within the last five years. This period is not tied to any date so it moves forward each day. An ingrediant tested in 1993 would not be used this year, but it could be used in 1999 after the five year period has elapsed. This policy only delays the use of new ingrediants. It is not strict enough.

OUR COMPANY DOES NOT INITIATE TESTS: but perhaps the company's suppliers or parent company does testing on their behalf.

AGAINST ALL ANIMAL TESTS: does not tell you if the product/ingrediants have been tested on animals.

Only accept cruelty-free products which have a clear fixed cut off date and state that the ingrediants have not been tested on animals.

The companies listed below have a fixed cut off date and are to the best of our knoeledge vegetarian unless otherwise stated.
