Subject:Anarchism Wanders Around the Information Superhighway Anarchism Wanders Around the Information Superhighway Handing Out Leaflets An article in Computing Magazine entitled "Anarchism Runs Riot On The Information Superhighway" contains inaccuracies, gross distortion and innuendo about myself and Spunk Press. Most Internet users will recognise the article for the sensationalist trash it is. A similar article has appeared in the Sunday Times. Information provided by the sources is inaccurate: 1. I am not responsible for the Spunk Press archive, which is run by an editorial collective of approximately 30 people spread around the globe, coordinated by a mailing list. 2. There are no links between the Terminal Boredom BBS (a bulletin board recently seized by the police) and Spunk Press. Spunk Press material is found on hundreds of bulletin boards. 3. Spunk Press has no links with hackers. Spunk Press has never demonstrated hacking, or access to bulletin boards containing bomb making information. 4. The contents of the Spunk Press archive are misrepresented. The current archive has nearly 1,000 items in it. Only one item, a criticism of the anarchist cookbook, refers to bomb making, and the article is highly critical of this and all activities in the anarchist cookbook. Spunk Press refuses to carry the Anarchist Cookbook. The archive is intended to generate debate about the positive aspects of anarchism and to document activities and publications in the anarchist milieu. There is practically no reference to illegal activities of any description, although such information may easily be found elsewhere on the Internet. 5. The lack of significance of information listings in Spunk Press is not made clear. Every person with access to Internet newsgroups has alt.society.revolution listed in a file on their local system. There is no significance in Spunk Press carrying this. In any case, the Internet user may judge for him or herself by accessing the archive. Comments welcome to spunk@locust.cic.net. The chances of clearing my name and that of Spunk Press are minimal in the paper media, so we trust to the Internet to do this. This is yet another attack on freedom of speech on the Internet. ian Spunk Press Scotland S P U N K P R E S S Spunk Press (The Electronic Anarchist Archive)
