Activist Simon was arrested in Edinburgh on 22nd March 2003 for displaying an upside-down US flag emblazoned with the words "Fuck Bush" and a swastika design.

The arresting officers said that Simon's flag was likely to "incite racial hatred" despite the message being aimed at George W. Bush and his administration and not the American people.

Copies of the flag have been produced as postcards and some think it would be a good idea to send these postcards to the arresting officers (details below).

Some believe it is "just the police trying it on, trying to hassle demonstrators now the bombing has begun. I think its a ridiculous charge and the police should be shown that loads of people agree with that."

A wave-in was held on Edinburghs Princes Street between 5pm and 6pm on Friday Fri April 4th 5.00pm East end of Princes St at Waterloo Statue

The coppers in attendance were just those in uniform just observed like poets and did not follow the lead of their special branch plain cloths collegues in hitting and restaining in painfull wrist locks any of those displaying the defaced american flag, as done with Simon on March 22nd. (note it was then a uniform officer who than came in and cuffed simon after a long minute or so, but this would not have happened if not for actions of plain clothes officers).

Hopefully the charges will be dropped.

CRITICAL MASS AGAINST THE WAR
26th January, 2pm, meet Hunter Square, by the Tron Kirk, Royal Mile, Edinburgh

There will be a critical mass against the impending war on Iraq on Sunday 26th January. Meet at Hunter square on the Royal Mile at 2pm. The mass will last approximately an hour.

Please bring bikes, banners, placards and things to make plenty of noise. The route will be announced just before the mass leaves.

Critical mass is a way for people to come together to be counted and make themselves heard. There are no leaders in a critical mass, each person takes responsibility for their own safety and the safety of those about them. Critical mass is non-violent.
Only by peaceful means do we achieve peace.
Critical mass is a group of people cycling (and walking) along the road very slowly. It can cause other people some inconvenience and they may get angry and aggressive. Remember critical mass is non violent and do not respond. Critical mass is a bit illegal.

If you believe war on Iraq is wrong come along and be counted.

On 31st of October in Edinburgh many gathered in Bristo Square to give Bush and Blair a fright, as the daylight came to an end. The police had taken fright and manned (and horsed) the exits just in case we dashed off to cause trouble but we were happy to frolic in the square and takethe alloted march route at avertised time of 4.30 or so. After successfull street parties taking the streets as ours in past years the police the obliged to conceed clearing them for us to march at 4.30 on a weekday which I guess they would have turned us down for before. All concessions are won through struggle.

The March bounded over George IV bridge, and stopped and danced at junction with Royal Mile. The police being egar to get us off the streets, before the rush hour, pulled people to their feet from sitting and urged them to move on.
No one really felt like taking them on yet, but our point was made: we will cause trouble if Iraq is attacked.
We moved on to outside the temporary home of Scottish parliment (Church Asembley) to marval at the impressive echo from sound from speakers PA boucing around Edinburghs landmarks, and then hit the pubs for discussion of future tatics.

The recordings were done over the phone from a call box with a microphone held to reciever. Need to add mic pickup that plugs in phone line on my shopping list. The microphone went straight into a computer running Windows ME

The July 24th recording was recorded using audio recorder that comes with Windows ME to Wav format, which has 60s limit. The recordings of 26th were done with Audacityas one, with less hiss.

Both were edited and converted to Ogg Vorbis format using Audacity. The convertion from wav format to MP3 was done with CDex.

We got better at holding mic still (and realised how important this was) by 26th. And learn to use more features audacity eg zoom in to remove mic noise. I have put one of those mics that plugs into phone line directly on my xmas list.

Still need to get to grips with files sizes and encoding rates.

After two days of peaceful and festive demonstrations, actions, street theatre and performances in Strasbourg, today police have attacked a demonstration against a migrant's detention centre in Strasbourg city centre.

Confirmed reports of heavy clashes with police are arriving at the NoBorder Camp radio stream.

Around 700 demonstrators that were taking part in a demo against a detention centre have been attacked by riot police that used tear gas, CS spray, heavy batton charges and snatch arrests.

Confirmed reports of about 10 people having been arrested ( 20 according to latter reports all now released ) and many others injured.
Many of the people taking part in the demo tryed to get back to the camp but they are consistently attacked by riot police. Another smaller group were trapped in central Strasbourg and were tear gassed several times. People in the camp gathered and moved towards Strasbourg city centre to help and show solidarity to those still trapped in the city.

The atmosphere in the camps is increasingly getting more and more tense as people fears police eventually attacking the camp.

As we write people are arriving with tales of police brutality and calls are continuously been made in the camp for people to help them with water and first aid.
