Members of the ACE collective ran the Unemployed Workers' Centre on Broughton Street as a campaigning and social space until being forcibly evicted by the Council on Dec. 1st, 1994. Despite a long lack of premises, activities continued to flourish. Then in February 1997, ACE found its "Centre" at 17 West Montgomery Place. ACE is now organised and used by a network of groups and individuals sharing a basic perspective of grass-roots organising and mutual aid. The centre is open to the public. Also, interested people are encouraged to get involved. We try to develop links to other local groups, such as Refugees Welcome Here, and the Gartocher Residents in Glasgow, who stopped a landfill site being built in their residential area. By sharing experiences, skills and knowledge, we hope to help each other improve our homes, communities, workplaces and lives. People involved in ACE also support a variety of international activism and social movement. These cover a wide range of issues including anti-capitalism, authoritarian schools, ecological sustainability, gender and feminism, GM crops, sexuality & workers organising. We aim to work without hierarchy, encouraging anyone who is interested to participate. We also aim to provide information and resources for people who want to take action to meet community needs and work toward a fairer society. |
