Summer 2001

It's that time of year again when thoughts begin to turn towards summer activity. In Edinburgh last summer, a street party attracted over 1000 people and on a gloriously sunny day we enjoyed the freedom of the city, occupying the main street despite the best efforts of the polis.

It was suggested that one way to develop this further was to combine a street event with an anti-capitalist, anti-authoritarian conference, possibly to take place over Friday and Saturday with the action on Sunday. This has already led to considerable discussion: Should conference be combined with a street action? And what form should any conference take, what sort of events and speakers should be included? What should the conference be for? (Revolutionary overthrow of capitalism; Anarchism; libertarian communism; slightly more this and a bit less that when the time is prudent?) In any such event we would hope for the participation of a wide range of groups and individuals from all over Scotland and further afield, so we are contacting as many people as possible to ask their opinions.

If you are actively supportive; to have your say on these issues and many more, you are welcomed to organsing meetings at ACE on alternate Mondays inc.19th March at 7.30pm.

We are holding a meetings to discuss these issues at the Autonomous Centre of Edinburgh. Obviously it would be great if you could attend this meeting but we recognise that many people wont be able to make it. Get in touch if you want to ask about where we are coming from to start with, and what we have been thinking at last meeting and since. As this conference is hoped to have a focus that extends far beyond Edinburgh, it is important there is input from a variety of groups.

MUTINY COLLECTIVE

The last several MUTINY UnLtd benefit nights at the the Attic have been huge successes. Good turnouts and good performances (both from bands and readers) guaranteed everyone a good night and ACE with a more stable future financially.

Bands and Performers (Spoken Word etc.) are invited to get in touch, also we need people to spread publicity.
