WOULD YOU LIKE TO DO SOMETHING TO HELP?
Every year in our countryside over 200 foxhunts kill about 20,000 foxes for sport. Whereas you or I might watch a football match or go for a swim, these people 'enjoy' themselves by chasing and killing foxes.
The ugly truth that lies behind foxhunting is well hidden from the public- there have been cases of hunts training young hounds by digging live fox cubs from their earths and throwing them to the pack to let the hounds taste the blood of their future victim. Some hunts have built artificial fox earths in areas where foxes are scarce to encourage the existence of enough victims to satisfy their sadistic pleasure in the hunting season. And evidence has been captured on film of the use of a 'bagged' fox being released yards in front of a pack of hounds- to ensure a kill.
For the last 18 years the Edinburgh Hunt Saboteurs have been taking non-violent direct action against Scottish fox hunts. Having been instrumental in the closing of the Linlithgow & Stirlingshire hunt in 1991, we are now targettting the 4 hunts which operate in the Scottish Borders (in the Lauder-Duns-Selkirk-Melrose-Hawick areas). Sometimes we join up with other groups in Scotland to 'sab' the Fife and west coast hunts. Our tactics are non-violent.
Each Saturday (and occasionally mid-week) from September to March, we will be out 'sabbing' these hunts and saving the lives of the foxes that these people hunt for their entertainment.
Our short term aim is to save as many animals from the hunt as possible and raise public awareness.. and our long term aim is to hasten the day when bloodsports are banned by law.
We need your support. For those who are not able to be active in the field, we need help with fundraising, organisation and other supporting activities. We have virtually no overheads and no paid staff so most of the money goes directly into saving lives.
